Wart & Verruca Removal
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection on the toenails or fingernails. The nail infection causes fingernail/toenails to thicken, discolour, disfigure or split. The toenails are much more likely to be infected than fingernails. Without treatment for the infection the nails can damage further easily, especially with toes as they can rub against shoes cause pain and cause nails to break.
​Fungal nail infections are a common nail disease: adults are 30 times more likely to have nail fungus than children. In fact, only 2.6% of children younger than 18 years old are reported to have nail fungus infection, but as many as 90% of elderly people have this infection.
Verruca Removal
Verrucae are warts that occur on the soles of the feet. They are the same as warts on any other part of the body. However, they may look flatter, as they get imbedded into the skin of the soles due to body weight. Verrucae and wart development is caused by a benign infection of the surface layer of the skin with HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). This virus is very contagious and can be passed from different parts of the body and on to other people very quickly. The predominantly held view is that verruca’s and wart’s will generally resolve themselves given time, but this period of infection can be quite lengthy (often measured in months or years) and be a time of both pain and social restriction. Recurrence is not uncommon.
How do we treat verruca's with a laser?
In our clinics we treat verruca's very successfully using the Nd:YAG Laser. A highly targeted beam of laser light is aimed at the verucca. The energy from the laser heats up the blood vessels (roots) feeding the verruca. The laser energy destroys the blood vessel and stop the blood supply. This starves the wart or verruca of nutrients so it naturally falls off after a few weeks. Depending on the size and number of areas to be treated subsequent visits may be required: these will be assessed fully by our practitioners during consultation. The procedure is generally very quick and has no downtime and we recommend our medically graded products as an after care treatment as this aids the healing process of the skin after the laser treatment, and can help prevent verrucae from spreading.
Wart Removal
Warts appear as small rough lumps on the skin. Warts can occur anywhere on the body but occur most commonly on hands and feet. They range in size from 1 mm to several cm. Sometimes only one or two warts develop, but often multiple warts develop in a single region. The shape and size of warts vary, and they are sometimes classed by how they look. For example: common warts, plane (flat) warts, filiform (finger-like) warts, mosaic warts, etc.
How do we treat wart's with a laser?
The Nd:YAG laser is the most successful way to treat warts available today and works by destroying the blood supply to the wart without causing damage to the skin. The laser energy heats up the wart, sealing its blood supply and causing the lesion to die. We also treat warts using our medically graded products which we recommend as an after care as it speeds up the healing process of the skin after the laser treatment and prevents warts from spreading.
