Onychomycosis (Nail Fungus) laser treatment in London
What is Nail Fungus (Onychomycosis)?
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection on the toenails or fingernails. The nail infection causes fingernail/toenails to thicken, discolour, disfigure or split. The toenails are much more likely to be infected than fingernails.
Fungal nail infection is the most common nail disease. Adults are 30 times more likely to have nail fungus than children. In fact, only 2.6% of children younger than 18 years old are reported to have nail fungus infection, but as many as 90% of elderly people have this infection.
At first, onychomycosis appears to be only a cosmetic concern. It may cause psychological or social problems. Without treatment the toenails become thick and they can press against the inside of the shoes causing pressure, irritation and pain.
How does the laser nail fungus treatment work?
Laser treatments are the most effective way of gaining visible results within months.
The laser cures the nail very quickly to kill the parasitic fungi embedded in the nail bed and nail plate.
How many treatments are necessary?
At least 4 treatments are performed four times over 1 month.
How does it feel?
The patient should feel a heating sensation throughout the nail.
It is advisable to have a medical pedicures whilist having nail fungal treatments to maintain results and for better penetration of the laser.
